Kindergarten – Grade 1: You, Me, & Energy
In this workshop, students will learn about light and colour in an interactive way. The session begins with a short discussion about where we see light and how light helps us see. Students will learn about the colours of the rainbow and, through a hands-on activity, how the sun helps produce those colours.
Grade 2: Moving Up
Through hands-on learning and building, classes will learn about the power of simple machines. Students will explore the uses of different simple machines and explore how they can work together to help solve problems.
Grade 3: Under Pressure
Calling all future engineers! This workshop teaches students about the importance of civil engineering by having them design and create their own bridge using a unique range of materials. Throughout the workshop, students complete the cycle of engineering by designing a bridge, building a prototype, testing it, then discussing how they would improve their bridges in a second prototype.
Grade 4: Making Waves
Here, students will learn all about the invisible waves responsible for light and sound. Through interactive activities, classes will explore the awesome properties of waves and how those properties manifest in the world around them.
Grade 5: Anatomania
Students will take a deep dive into the circulatory system. They’ll learn how the heart works and why its blood-pumping function is important, and how blood actually travels throughout the body. We will then connect this back to why exercise is so important for our health. As an activity, students get to make their own heart, to have a visual of how the heart’s pumping pushes the blood out.
Grade 6: Lift Off
Students explore the four forces of flight—thrust, drag, lift, and weight—through an interactive, hands-on activity. Working in pairs, they design, build, and launch paper rockets, testing how changes in shape, fins, and weight affect flight performance. This workshop combines engineering design with scientific discovery to make physics fun and tangible.
Grade 7: Substances & Solutions
This workshop gives students a hands opportunity to learn about the differences between physical and chemical reactions and different types of mixtures with two activities. Comprised of two major activities, students will learn about creating chemical reactions and differentiating between heterogeneous and homogeneous mixtures.
Grade 8: Fluids
